Being Called: Scientific, Secular & Sacred Perspectives Being Called: Scientific, Secular & Sacred PerspectivesIt was my calling, a person might say, describing how they were pulled toward a particular career or type of volunteer work. The type of awakening that leads to action may have its start in the mental, spiritual, or physical realm, or some combination thereof — a ...

The Power of Ideals: The Real Story of Moral Choice The Power of Ideals: The Real Story of Moral ChoiceNone of us is perfect in our everyday lives — and certainly not in our morality, that inner voice that either moves or holds our moral compass to a compassionate setting. As a people, as a society, there have been eras where we have shown unthinkable ...

Book Review: Meditation as a Way of Life Book Review: Meditation as a Way of LifeMeditation is rarely easy. But for some, the practice seems too centered on a faith or belief system that may not match their own. Alan Pritz, an interfaith minister and spiritual disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda, offers Meditation as a Way of Life: Philosophy and Practice to people of all religions. Based on the ...

How to Live Well with Chronic Pain & Illness: A Mindful Guide How to Live Well with Chronic Pain & Illness: A Mindful GuideI have been drawn to Toni Bernhard’s work because of the history of chronic illness in my family and because of the Eastern tradition she brings. This time, in her third book, How to Live Well with Chronic Pain and Illness, “mindful guide” has replaced ...

A View From a Lake: Buddha, Mind & Future A View From a Lake: Buddha, Mind & FutureIt is rare to read manuscript that cuts through expectation and forces the calibrated critical eye to step aside. But that is precisely what Neil Hayes’s A View From a Lake did for me. Rarely have I been so moved — and, dare I say, inspired — by a ...

The Healing I Took Birth For: Practicing the Art of Compassion The Healing I Took Birth For: Practicing the Art of CompassionOndrea Levine did not have a storybook childhood with loving, doting, attentive parents. Conversations With My Soul: Stories & Reflections on Life, Death & Love After Loss Conversations With My Soul: Stories & Reflections on Life, Death & Love After LossI remember my piano teacher telling me that music is a universal language. Now I put love, loss, and grief in that category, too. Regardless of who we are, what we believe, or where we live, all of us will experience some degree of love, loss, and ...

Solution-Oriented Spirituality: Connection, Wholeness & Possibility Solution-Oriented Spirituality: Connection, Wholeness & PossibilityIn therapy and other mental health sessions, we delve into a client’s most private, innermost thoughts: the feelings and experiences that make them human. But despite the intimacy of therapy, there are some aspects of clients’ lives that can prove uncomfortable for clinicians — including spirituality. In Solution-Oriented Spirituality: Connection, ...

Choosing to Live: Enduring the Loss of a Loved One Choosing to Live: Enduring the Loss of a Loved OneDeath is difficult to discuss. When it comes to our own demise, we might think we’re tempting fate if we talk of wishes or of writing a will. And when it comes to the death of a loved one, we are hit with a major loss: we ...

The Alchemy of Self Healing: A Revolutionary 30 Day Plan to Change How You Relate to Your Body and Health The dichotomy between the mind and the body, we keep learning, is a false one: We actually carry emotions in our physical selves, and can tell how someone is feeling by how they move or sit or stand. I was drawn to The Alchemy of ...

Happy Is the New Healthy: 31 Ways to Relax, Let Go & Enjoy Life Now Be forewarned: Dave Romanelli’s “happy” energy comes through loud and clear from the moment you lay eyes on this book. Book Review: It's About You! Know Your Self We probably get to see only the surface of most people. After all, what we know about others is often based on what they choose to show us. Yet it may be that we know scarcely more about the depths and complexities of our own selves. Using principles of metaphysics ...

Uncovering Happiness: Overcoming Depression with Mindfulness & Self-Compassion Through concentrated and intentional repetition, you can change your brain. The technical word for this concept, as coined by Jeffrey Schwarz at UCLA, is self-directed neuroplasticity, and recent studies bolster the theory. The ability to rewire our brain holds enormous potential for positive therapeutic change — ...

Emergence: Seven Steps for Radical Life Change In my constant journey of self improvement I am always looking for new resources.
